    Cold Cathode Experts Needed

I ordered some cathodes from Oznium.com. They come with dual transformers that allow you to plug 2 lights into 1 transformer. The problem is that the wire coming out of the light is not long enough to reach the transformer from the other side of the car. I called them for tech support. The dude was a straight up azzhole. All I asked him was could I extend the wire and still leave the plug on it that plugs into the transformer. He said no and that it would not work, but didn't tell me why. He told me I had to buy another transformer. I don't see why I need 2 dual transformers for 2 lights? He was acting like that white wire that comes out of the cold cathode has some kind of special magical properties. Do you know why it wouldn't work if I extended it with more wire and still left the transformer plug on it? I can understand if the transformer needs to be a certain amount of inches from the light to make it work, but he didn't explain that as a reason.

I would "assume" the transformer isn't very powerful and would drop voltage over a longer run of wire and not illuminate the lights. You could extend them and see what happens...

I've been running the CC's for the past few years. Transformers go out easily and some lights last and some don't. But they're cheap as hell, so I just keep a supply on hand...

    Hey Bass911,

Sorry about our mistake with the poor customer service on yesterday's phone call. Danny might have been having an "off" day. Anyways, I apologize about that. I want to start recording calls for quality control. To offer better service, we keep internal notes about each call. I see you've called three times, and have always have spoken with Danny.

Oct 14, "asked if he could extend the white wires. thought i was lying"

Yes, it would make sense that you could just extend the cathode's white wires, but unfortunately the technology doesn't really allow it. The wires between the transformer and tubes carry high voltage alternating current. Extending them can result in significant resistance and voltage drop, thus dimming the cathodes tubes.

There's further explanation on the cathode product page ( http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit ), under the FAQ section "Can I extend the white wires past the transformer?"

I think you might be happier with our 10 inch LED piranha bars instead. They don't need a transformer: http://www.oznium.com/piranha-bar

Thank you for your continued support.

By the way, see the youtube video on the cathode page?

The guy in the black ford focus is Danny. He started out as a loyal customer 5 years ago when we filmed the video.

Now he's been doing full time customer service with Oznium for a year now.

I didn't think he was lying. I just didn't get a technical reason for it not working. I had no problem with the first 2 calls. I guess I should have read the whole website. I pretty much bought what Danny suggested, and just assumed that there was no way I would need another transformer to run 2 lights. I got the cathodes cause people were saying they were brighter than leds. They seemed like the better deal vs. the Piranha bar at the time. I'm cool with Oznium and you don't have to get on Danny cause of me. I'm as tough as nails. I'd still recommend your company to others.

From my knowledge you are able to extend them by using just some basic wire.
If all else fails just send in a claim and say they got fried and they will send you new ones with no extra charge. The dealer fried my cousins and I told them that, and they sent out new ones without any questions.

haha ok, no offense but you do know, just by saying this on here and giving him that advice, pretty much f'ed up his chances of doing that, cause now if he does send them back cause he tried that(which he probably wont) their gonna probably say tough luck, i know i would if i was OZ.
