Help me decide: Dayton Titanic, Diamond D6, RE Audio SE

I am looking to buy a sub, and I want a crisp, tight bass thats clean and not too drowny sounding (you know, those subs that just go "booooooom" all the time).

    So I am looking at:

    Dayton Reference HiFi
    Dayton Titanic
    Diamond Audio D6
    RE Audio SE

all in 12", in a SEALED box (dont want to give up alot of space). From what I understand, the subs at the top of the list are more SQ and less SPL and the subs at the bottom (RE) are more just all out SPL and less quality. So that leads me to not really know what I want.

All those subs are right in my price range (around $120-$150) but I just dont know if the Dayton's are going to have as much punch as I am expecting....
I dont really even know what "loud" you know!

So if you had to choose from those subs, and wanted something that sounded clean and punchy but would still belt out those low tones with power behind it, what would you choose?

I dont care to set any records or make the person next to me roll there eyes...just want something that adds to my music and can impress me with pounding performance time after time.

I have installed many re se subs, they are very clean sounding. perfect for small sealed enclosures. The diamond's are great subs also but need alittle more box. I would say go with re's

Will ported RE's produce more bottom output than ported Fi Q (10" subs) @ 35Hz?

The RE se line and the FI Q are both sq subs. the output would be almost the same.

OK, so lets say I go with the Titanic (almost 80% sure)...

What is a good amplifier thats efficient (dont want to suck all the power out of my electrical while listening to music) and will run 500wRMS @4ohms.

See, the problem is, the D6 can be run at 1ohm and finding a quality, efficient 600wRMS amp is easy at 1ohm.

I would like to spend as little as possible as well. Like $160-180 is my range.

Both the SE and the Titanic will have very similar output in a sealed enclosure but the Titanic would drop a little lower than the SE. I think you would be satisfied with either sub in your situation. They should both be respectively loud and drop pretty low. I would put both in about 1.5 cubes or so for a nice smooth response with nice low end.

Re: Help me decide: Dayton Titanic, Diamond D6, RE Audio SE

OK so after not being able to really find an amp to run the Titanic, I think I am just going to run the Diamond D6 in a sealed elcosure with a 600wRMS amp. Probably a DVC 2ohms and run it at 1ohm so finding an amp wont be any trouble at all and it should sound pretty good. I hope!

So before I go and buy the D6, do you think it would be more advantageous to buy the titanic and find an amp and have alightly cleaner bass?

Realistically, how much cleaner will the Titanic sound than the D6. I am thinking the D6 will be slightly louder and may become somewhat annoying. I just REALLY with the Titanic was a DVC!

So, please...for clean bass that wont blend together like a SPL sub, is there a difference in the Titanic vs. the D6 in a sealed enclosure (say like 1ft^3)

Wait, you are dropping the idea of the Titanic because of it being single 4 ohm?

There are plenty of amps out there that will work great for the Titanic and can even be used as a great front stage amp if the time comes that you decide you want something else. Here are a few for example:

    AHH!!!!!! I still cant decide!

What do you think about MA Audio amps? I hear they are over rated (ratings are at 17V or something?) but how is the efficiency?

So basically I am looking for an amp that can do 500wRMS at 4 ohms and 600wRMS @ 2 or 1 ohms (if I decide to go with a Diamond D6 later).

So, any other input on a Class D amp that is efficient and meets those number requirements?

    Thanks guys!!!

Id go with either the Daytons or the D6s.

And I'd even say that I'd take the Dayton HO, over the D6, though I've never heard the D6s, but I sold my 05 XXX 15 and am going to be running the Dayton HO again, if that means anything to you. I used to use a 12" HO, and LOVED it, and I'm going to be installed 2 10" HOs soon.

Also, if box size is an issue, get the HO not the HF. The HF is designed for use where box size is not a limiting factor, the HO is more for car environments where box size can be a factor, the HO can run in a .8 cubic foot sealed box, the HF would need at least double that size.
