Profile amps: Any good?

I've heard a few people talk highly about Profile amps as being a pretty decent amp for the money. I'm debating on buying a new amp and was leaning towards and Alpine MRV-345 4 channel. However, is the Alpine $150 better than a Profile AP1040?

How close are they to what they say thier power is?

about 70% of what they say they have, they put out.

not bad for the money, not bad at all, reliable amp, not bad with distortion.

Profile puts out very close to rated power and is reliable. Good budget amps.

just curious how did you come up with that number of 70%? a profile would be a good choice. profile has some good deals on refurbed amps direct from there site.

I'm curious about where that number came from as well, because it's contradictory to what I've seen They are pretty accurate, power-wise.

i think pretty much everyone on here has had at least one profile amp to start out with because they arent expensive and they are pretty reliable and most come with a better warranty than most other amps out on the market

tHanks. I may have to consider the profile if I decide to purchase another amp rather than use my old Haflers.

Re: Profile amps: Any good?

The Profile CL600 was the first amp that I've ever bought and I ran it for a few months it did the job. I gave it to my bro he abused the $hit out of it for 2 years running it at under something like .5ohm and the amp was rated to only handle min of 2ohm. The amp got warm to the touch but never burning hot even in the summer. It finally gave up on him when he tried to add another sub to his ghetto setup.

thats my story. On top of that a lot of people say that they are good amp for the money and does rated power. If you want to buy there amp check out http://www.profilecaraudio.com/amplifiers.htm
its profile online refurb amps. I didnt get mine there but it should be just as good since its Factory refurb not some store.

I agree with those guys above. I recomended one of the factory refurbs to a guy I work with, and he got a hell of a sub amp for $60. Excellent entry level/budget amps.

Re: Profile amps: Any good?

It's true, i'll reiterate what everyone before me has said... they're great amps for the money.

However i thought they put out more around 70% of the power as well... lots of you are saying near rated power? That's incredible for the price!

Anyway, great deals to be had on profile amps. i think the clarus line in general is nicer than the california line, but i couldn't say for sure =]

Re: Profile amps: Any good?

70% was my guess, i ugraded from my 1000w profile to a 1000w JL, and it felt like the profile was like 70% of it, i didn't do any kind of testing or anything, just from what i felt like my ears were telling me

Doesn't necessarily mean the Profile was overrated.

The JL could have just been underrated
