subwoofer choice

a guy i work with wants me to build him a cheap system. he has 300 dollars and wants more loud than sound quality. that's for an amp and subwoofer(s). i'm thinking 500 rms or so. maybe a single 15 or 2 12's. this needs to be a name he recognizes. so far, the best i've come up with is the kicker cvr15 (125$ on ebay) and an alpine mrp-m500 (150$ on ebay). any other suggestions would be appreciated. 2 12's is also an option, but i figured 1 15 would probably be the cheapest for loudness route. if i wasn't bound by popular brand names, it'd be easier. help:confused:

edit: he gave me 400$, but i am building the box. i'll probably make about 5 dollars an hour on this one.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Find a maw and put a kicker or alpine logo on it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The Kicker sub would prob be the best bet since he will not have much for an amp.

audiobahn a8000v and 2 12" kicker cvr's. the classic low low budget system:greedy:
the kickers maybe, but i refuse to lower my standards and buy audiobahn. a cheaper, lower watt quality amp will still put out more power.

i thought the same. the kicker is a 500 rms 15, which should get pretty loud in a decent box. i'm thinking 3 cubes tuned to 38hz should sound like he spent his money well.

My buddy has a 15" CVR in a prefab on 500 rms, it's plenty loud for the average person. A lot of people said "It's the loudest system I've ever heard!"... Until I walked them over to my 18" Q. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would imagine it'd be even more impressive in a proper box.

i haven't ordered it yet, or started putting plans on paper, but what do you think about 3 cubes at 38hz. i don't really like kicker too much personally, so i haven't worked with alot of it. he's no an audiophile, so i'm thinking maybe 2.75 cubes tuned to 40 may get a little louder, which is about the only thing that will impress him.

Open screw holes sound like a little muffler, loose box panels sound like a massager on a wooden table.
