    Pioneer DEH-980 Vs Alpine 9887

Ok I cant decide on which one to buy and need your guys opinions... Which HU would you choose and why? Pros and Cons for both plz... I heard the Alpin is a ***** with the Ipod going back to A list instead the last song you were listing to.... Thanks for your opinions and help... Btw 980 has color screen but dont like the way either look... I would look into eclipse HUs but most of em have a 8v Pre out and I was talking to Jacob @ Sundown Audio and he says the amps like a 4v/5v pre outs....

I've had 8v preouts with sundowns and it was fine, set the volume where it is at 6volts and gains basically compltely down.

You can still find new Eclipse CD7000's being sold, those had a 5v output.

Between the two you mentioned (Alpine, Pioneer) I would probably go Alpine for the somewhat better onboard signal processing, but like you Im not fond of its bland looking screen.

I had the 980 and just bought the 9887... I agree with you on the display- a bit bland which is why I hesitated but it has so much functionality I ended up scooping it up. I was happy with the 980BT but I am going to run some Boston Pro60s active and I wanted to use a HU. the 880PRS will allow you to do this but not the 980. Not sure what is important to you, but the SQ on the 980BT was pretty solid, although I've preferred Alpines' SQ. They just stopped making non-shitty decks after the 9835.

Re: Pioneer DEH-980 Vs Alpine 9887

I personally like the bland screens. When I look at my deck all I care about is being able to read the screen. I have had Pioneer 860 with the color screen and didnt like it being the color screen looked to much like a cartoon. That said I would choose the Alpine but I run active and care more about the processing then the screen. The 980 would work great if not running active, It has a lot more EQ, t/a and a basic crossover. It also has bluetooth if you want that. As far as Ipod then the Alpine. Pioneer is no slouch with the Ipod but the Alpine should be better. I ran an 880 with the Ipod and it wasnt bad but a tick slow.

they are both good head units, i would do the 880prs.
i have one, the functions alone, the radio should be in the 500-600 dollar range.
they have great sq and worth every penny.
the only comparable deck would be the eclipse cd 7000 or 7100

i just happened to see this and man its worth every penny to own one of these radios.

I sold my 880PRS and bought the 9887 3 days ago. I've always preferred the sound of Alpine. Sorry- I've now posted twice in this thread

Re: Pioneer DEH-980 Vs Alpine 9887

i have an alpine 9855 that has a 4 v preout and rf 4600 that has 250 mV-1V..makes no difference, the 4V is on max not on normal listening, turn the gains a bit down when u hear distortin and besides thats not smthg difficult to replace on an amp...as far as the reviews goes id go with the 9887, didnt listen to the decks...

Re: Pioneer DEH-980 Vs Alpine 9887

I have had an 880 and i run a 9835. I want a 9887 for all the extra features, but not changing till the 9835 dies. The 880 worked great never had a problem with it. I have also had a eclipse 8454 and the pioneer and eclipse have more Eq but the T/A and the crossovers are about the same. I only use 2 bands of my eq on my alpine so I dont need the big eq. I like how they all sounded. I really like the 8053 eclipse. If it had mp3 then it would have never left my dash. I wasnt happy with the 8454. The 880 sounded great but I like the 9835 sound a little better, to me it was a tick warmer sounding.
