    16 volt systems

    any one know how to get 16 volts going to my amp from the 12 volts system in the car, i can only get around 14 to the amp and even with the 5 farad cap i have i have problems with the volts fluxuating. i need to know how to keep a steady 16 volts to my amp, at least 16!!! help my before the compitition season!

    you have to buy a 16V/12V turbo start battery and a 14Vstepdown or a 16V alt

    New alt + voltage regulator + big 3 + bigger wires. You'll never get a stable 16 volts, but hey, that's about as good as you'll do.

    actually, you dont need bigger wires.
    more voltage= less current draw from the amp

    what do i need to buy to get a sonsitant voltage of "around' 16 volts to 20 volts max to my amp?? low voltage is killing me in compitions i hve 2 extra batteries and a 5 farad cap and still the volts drop bad.

    a 16V battery
    a 14V step down ( to car)
    a 16v step up ( to battery from alt)

    i found the step down resistor for the 16 to 14 on turbostart.com but how do i charge the 16 volt battery on the 2 volt system

    you get the step up, its very expensive.
    The 16/12V battery and a 16V alt would be cheaper

    would a 16 volt alt wreck my electrical system or would every thing jsut run at 16 volts?

    nope, thats what the 16/12V battery is for
    16V to the amp, 12V to the rest of the car

    so if i take out the 2 12 volt batteries and swap it with the 16 volt on from turbo start and get a step up resistor i should be set? then i wouldnt have the change teh 180 amp alt i have ?

    nope.
    swap out the 12V batteries and the 12V alt.
    Put the 16V alt and the 16/12V battery in.
    Thats all you have to do

    then the car system would be 12 volt and the audio system would be 16 right?
