    Re: Gain Setting Tutorial

    Ok... Here is my deal...

I have one (1) 12" Kicker 05CVR124 Dual 4 ohms Voice Coil. It is rated at 400 rms.

I am working on a deal to get a Hifonics BX1000D (while it is more power than I truly need now, it will be perfect in the future if I decide to get another sub).

Now the Hifonics BX1000D is rated at 700 rms x 1 at 2 ohms. This is too much power for my 400 rms sub. Right?

Now, using a multimeter to set the amp, is it possible to restrict the output of the BX1000D enough to be able to use it with my sub? If so, should I aim for 400 watts exactly, or less, or more, or what?

    Thanks.

Just figure what you want it to be with the hu volume up 3/4 of the way. say 400 wrmsX2ohm=800 sq root=28.28.

Ok... I got the same voltage that I woudl want...

So if I messed with the amp until I got that amount of volts, that means that I would be getting only 400 rms out of the amp right?

And I dont understand this part of your post

    Okay. Thanks.

And doing that will make it so my sub is only getting 400 rms?

with a 0 dB signal (providing it's still 4 ohms at that frequency) ...

I dont understand that.. but it doesnt really matter...

As long is its the 400 watts that my sub is rated for im good right?

    Re: Gain Setting Tutorial

say Jmac was up hey on my bass knob do I use it at all? or do I leave it alone...since I adjusted my gains but they are almost to far end or full is this ok ?(don't want to blow my subs u know) ok on my deck I believe rca volts is 2 volts, that might be the issue.... any opinions ..

bass knob use it to full scale ? then adjust gains ----->to 32.4 for each gain
please correct me if I'm very wrong thanks

    Re: Gain Setting Tutorial

ok. You have to know the resistance of your subs and what your amp puts out at that ohm load. But, I have a nine.2 (400x1 @ 4 ohms), which is being run at 2.69 ohms so what should i put in place of 400 since it isnt being run at 4 ohms
